Up-Yours Roast Chicken

Originally this recipe is known as Beer Can Chicken or Beer in the Butt Chicken. I'm using root beer, instead, but feel free to experiment.....

Up-Yours Roast Chicken

1 whole chicken
Any of your favourite dry BBQ rub
1 can root beer

Preheat oven to 180 C.

Rinse the chicken, inside and out, then drain and blot dry.
Sprinkle the rub inside the body cavities and all over the skin of the bird. If you wish, you may rub the mixture between the flesh and the skin.

Pop the tab on the root beer can. Pour out about 1/3 of the drink.
Holding the chicken upright, with the opening of the body cavity down, insert the can into the cavity.



Bake in the oven for about 40 minutes.

When cook, remove the can from the chicken. Be careful not to spill the hot content in the can on yourself. Let the chicken stand for 5 minutes before carving the meat.








Spicy Chicken Rub

1/4 cup paprika
2 tbsp dark brown sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
3 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp dry mustard

Combine all ingredients in a jar and shake to mix.
Store in an airtight container.
May last up to 6 months.
