Daging Api-Api
Recipe taken from Ismail Ahmad's Malay Heritage Cuisine

1 kg beef, sliced
2 tbsp sambal oelek
15 shallots
6 cloves garlic
tamarind juice
3 tbsp thick soy sauce
coarsely ground black pepper

In a blender, finely processed the shallots, garlic and chillies.

Heat oil in a pot over high heat. Fry the blended ingredients until fragrant.
Lower the heat and add sugar and continue to stir until mixture looks glossy.

Add beef, tamarind juice, thick soy sauce and a little water. Cook until the gravy thickens.
Season well. Remove from heat.

Sprinkle with coarsely ground black pepper before serving.
