1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Place dates and1 tsp baking soda in a bowl. Stir in boiling water and leave it to cool completely.

In a mixing bowl, cream shortening with sugar. Beat in egg.

Combine flour, salt and 1 tsp baking soda; add to the creamed mixture alternately with the boiled dates.

Pour into a greased baking pan. Sprinkle top with chocolate chips and pecan nuts.

Bake at 180 C for 30 minutes.

Note : Make sure all date seeds are remove from the mixture.... I will not be held responsible for any one losing their teeth while enjoying this cake......

MamaFaMi ~ This cake is pretty packed with dates....but I find it less rich than ordinary fruit cake and not as oily. I was quite surprise that Elsa actually loves this cake, as she has a dislike for fruity cakes.
