Lamb Chop with Turnip Gratin

 

I remember reading "The Enormous Turnip" to my daughter when she was very, very young. It was one of those Mother Goose story that seemed to go on and on.........
and it never failed to amuse her. As always, she had the wide-eyed look of amazement and bewilderment at the end of every story reading session, even though I had read it to her for the umpteenth times. Easily amused......still is.





Turnip Gratin

1 cup whipping cream
1 cup milk
1 shallots, thinly sliced crosswise
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3 medium sized turnips, peeled, cut into 1/6-inch-thick slices

Preheat oven to 180C. Combine first 6 ingredients in heavy medium saucepan. Bring to simmer.

Add turnips to cream mixture; stir to coat.

Pour mixture into glass baking dish and press to even layer. Cover dish with foil. Bake 15 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake until top is golden brown, turnips are tender, and most of cream mixture is absorbed, about 25 minutes longer.





Lamb Chop

3 lamb chop
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp chopped rosemary
1 tbsp olive oil

Season chop with salt and pepper and sprinkle with rosemary. Fry for 2-3 minutes in a hot frying pan. Transfer to the oven to cook through for 3-4 minutes.
