Fish and Mushy peas

I was craving for a good fish and chips and mushy peas. So, I scoured the e-world for what I thought was the best fish and chips recipe.
Looking at my ever expanding waistline, I decided to forego the chippies.......
DEEP FAT FRY FISH BATTER
3/4 to 1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. crushed black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar
3/4 c. water
Dry fish fillets with paper towels. Mix flour, pepper and salt together. Add baking soda and vinegar. Add water until right consistency to dip fish fillets. Deep fat fry as usual.
MUSHY PEAS
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 bunch spring onions, chopped
1 teaspoon chopped fresh mint
1 pound frozen green peas, thawed
2 tablespoons butter (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt and ground black pepper to taste
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add spring onion, mint, and peas. Cover, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Mash peas with a potato masher. Stir in butter, and season with salt and pepper.
